Find and remove the battery

It's important to check your owner's manual to find where the battery actually is in your lawn mower and what tool you'll need to replace it. You'll need either a crescent wrench or a pair of pliers to remove the battery from the mower. Once you remove the battery you'll have to determine what kind of battery charger will work for getting your specific type of battery charged and purchase one from your local hardware store or battery store.

Charge the battery

The battery charging is the easiest part of the process. Most chargers will be color coded and symbol coded: Red and the "+" sign will go together, indicating positive, and black and the "-" sign will go together, indicating negative. Attach the leads from the charger to the appropriate sides and plug them in--it's that simple. The charger should indicate when it's done and the battery is full.

Replace the battery in the mower

Once your battery is fully charged all you have to do is replace it back in your mower. Replace the battery back in the housing area that you found it in and replace any wires that were attached to it. Reattaching them to the wrong place will make the mower not work. Once your battery is back in its original place and fully charged you should be prepared to give your lawn a trim.
